In his civil litigation practice, Carl Shaw has successfully advocated in many noteworthy cases in areas involving environmental litigation, personal injury and wrongful death, as well as cases involving railroad, products liability and medical malpractice.

Having served as an adjunct professor in Advanced Civil Litigation at the South Texas College of Law since 1994, he is active in its Mock Trial Program under the direction of Dean T. Gerald Treece.

Mr. Shaw served as the Harris County Deputy Sheriff/Law Clerk in the 151st District Court and still maintains his license as a Texas Peace Officer. He is a Master Peace Officer in the State of Texas. During his tenure at the 151st, the court tried Pennzoil Co. v. Texaco, Inc., one of the most publicized antitrust cases in history. Later, he was employed as a law clerk with the firm and has been an attorney here since 1991.

After earning his Juris Doctorate from South Texas College of Law, he was selected the Outstanding Male Graduate by the Student Bar Association. He also served as president of the Law Student Division of the American Trial Lawyers Association, and was honored as a National Institute of Trial Advocacy regional champion and as a National Institute of Trial Advocacy finalist.

Mr. Shaw was elected to the Order of the Barristers for his excellence in advocacy. He was the first recipient of the South Texas College of Law's Career Division Alum of the Month Award and the American Jurisprudence Award in Conflicts of Law. He also received the Dean's Student Service Award for Meritorious Service to the Law School in 1990.

In addition to his practice, Mr. Shaw is a qualified mediator who handles a range of civil matters. He contributes time to many educational, charitable and pro bono activities, including programs through the law school, undergraduate schools, and children's groups. He continues in service and in mission to the New Mankind Project and other philanthropic organizations.
