Houston Accutane Lawsuit Attorney

What is Accutane?

Accutane is a prescription drug that was originally developed as a chemotherapy drug to treat certain types of cancer. In 1982, Hoffmann-La Roche, the manufacturer of the drug, found that Accutane was also effective in treating patients with severe acne. Hoffman then began a very aggressive marketing campaign that resulted in the medication being prescribed for much less severe cases of acne.

Since that time, there have been many cases linking Accutane to a number of serious and permanent injuries and illnesses. In June 2009, after decades of complaints, the manufacturer recalled Accutane.

What Are the Side Effects of Accutane?

Both brand name Accutane and its generic forms can cause severe side effects, including:

  • Crohn’s disease
  • Inflammatory bowel disease
  • Birth defects
  • Ulcerative colitis
  • Kidney and liver damage
  • Depression and suicidal thoughts
